Volunteers at work in the race office

New officials

No ski racing experience required

We ask parents who have been in the sport a year or two to consider certifying as an alpine official. Several race-day jobs need a certified official, and having more parents certified lets us run fun, fair and efficient races for our kids.

Save the date: October 31, November 1 or both, at Buck Hill from about 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, for the alpine officials clinic and testing. Talk to your club's program director about which area would be best for you.

The jobs that need a certified official

  1. Chief of race. Oversees the logistics of race day and sits on the jury.

  2. Chief of timing. Runs the timing so every race is efficient and fair.

  3. Chief of course. Leads the course crew and the race-day equipment, on skis all day.

  4. Race administrator. Manages the race paperwork and files the results.

  5. Start and finish referee. Sets up the start or the finish and records each racer as they go through.

  6. Referee. The athletes' advocate on the jury, usually a coach.

Which job fits you

  1. Like being outside and on skis. Chief of course.

  2. Enjoy the warmth of the timing shack or the race office. Chief of timing, or race administrator.

  3. Like working at the start or the finish. Chief of race training, which also lets you serve as a start or finish referee. We will not push you into a chief of race job unless you want it.

Not sure yet?

There are volunteer jobs that need no certification, but we really need parents to certify so there are enough officials for every race. Tell us your interests and experience and we can recommend a position, based on where the region needs help.
